Abigale Lee
Miller (born on 21 September 1965), is an American choreographer, dance
instructor, and reality television personality. Abby Lee Dance Company is her
creation, which was a reality show that aired for eight seasons on Dance Moms.
Miller confessed in June 2016 to felony bankruptcy fraud. Miller was sentenced
on June 27 the 27th of June, 2016 to a year and one day in federal prison.
Miller was released on in March 27th, 2018. In April 2018 she was diagnosed
with lymphoma which is a type of cancer that makes it impossible to walk. She
uses a wheelchair to move around. Miller was a dancer in her early years in
Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, an Pittsburgh suburb, studying under the guidance of
her mother at the Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio. Miller aged 14 at the time, was
tasked with choreography and instruction of one of her mother’s dance
competition teams. Miller took control of the company and changed it's name to
Reign Dance Productions in 1995. Miller was certified by Dance Masters of
America and was admitted as a member of Dance Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter
#10 in 1986, but her membership was cut off in February 2012, with DMA
declaring that Miller's reality show Dance Moms was "a total false
representation of our dance teachers and their students . It's detrimental to
the dance profession."
